When is the next Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC fighter going to be announced?
There’s no clear date when Nintendo will announce the next (and possibly final) fighter to appear in its hit brawler. However, many fans believe that it will happen soon. The main reason for this is that Nintendo has held a Nintendo Direct showcase every September for the past few years. Even if Nintendo hasn’t announced one yet, fans are adamant that it’s only a matter of time. Another possible proof of the rumored September 2021 Nintendo Direct event is the timely maintenance scheduled by Monolith Soft on September 8. With that said, what’s confirmed is that the game’s director, Masahiro Sakurai, intends to announce the final Super Smash Bros DLC character before the end of 2021.
Is the next Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC fighter the last one?
Technically, Nintendo only has to announce the one and final character of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Fighter’s Pass Vol. 2 DLC. However, one particularly interesting rumor suggests that Nintendo is planning on dropping three fighters instead of one and the evidence comes from a Facebook post on Nintendo’s official Super Smash Bros. account on Facebook. The gist is that the aforementioned Facebook post claims that Smash Bros. Ultimate roster will have 84 fighters. Tekken’s Kazuya Mishima was the 81st. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to conclude that Nintendo might have unintentionally spilled the beans. Furthermore, the same source is suggesting that the next fighter/s are the starters from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It’s also worth noting that Nintendo previously listed the Pokémon Trainer as three separate fighters (33rd to 35th). This paves the way for three Pokémon to take on the 82nd to the 84th spot. Of course, if the next fighters are a trio of Pokémon, it doesn’t have to be from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. However, it would make sense if it is as the upcoming Pokémon game is scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch in January.
What’s next for Super Smash Bros Ultimate?
Back in 2020, Sakurai confirmed that a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was not in the cards yet. We don’t know if Sakurai’s plans have changed since. Either way, what’s sure is that Nintendo has its work cut out for itself with the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character. With fans hoping for Crash Bandicoot or Master Chief, the pressure is on Nintendo to deliver. Only time will tell if Nintendo can prove that it can live up to its own hype.
