Konami’s Tokyo Game Show lineup will include an unannounced game that is a new entry in a “world-beloved series.” Several sources have since claimed that this is not related to Metal Gear. However, most credible leakers are also saying that they can’t rule out Konami’s other plans for the event, specifically, remasters of older games. The most obvious guesses are Castlevania and Silent Hill, especially after what Christopher Gans, the director of the first Silent Hill movie, revealed in an interview in June. Andy Robinson, who is the editor of Video Games Chronicle, corroborated these reports. In a statement on Twitter, Robinson explained that the upcoming reveal at TGS will be “related to a smaller project,” adding that Konami has “larger planned revivals for Castlevania, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid.” Robinson clarified that he is under the impression that Konami is more likely to announce the aforementioned projects at a “more global-focused event” as he cited showcases like PlayStation’s State of Play and Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards as examples. Finally, Dusk Golem, another trusted insider, jumped on Robinson’s tweet. According to the insider, Konami will release remasters of the first three Metal Gear Solid games. Apparently, Konami intends to launch the remasters separately as individual titles and together.

— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) August 31, 2022 Kojima’s departure from Konami shouldn’t spell the end for Metal Gear. Then again, Konami will have its hands full trying to live up to the standards that Kojima set. For what it’s worth, Konami has spent the better part of the past two years that it’s working on multiple big projects. Last year, Konami skipped E3 because it was in “deep development of several key projects.” Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to see some of these titles in a few weeks if not later this year. Otherwise, Konami might just be yanking our tails and trying its best Kojima impression. Speaking of the Tokyo Game Show, the PSVR2 will be at the event where players can demo the upcoming VR version of Resident Evil Village.
