After Konami took down images of what some claim was from an in-development Silent Hill game, VGC reports that Konami’s in-house studios and other partner developers are in the process of developing a “remake, full sequel, and story-focused episodic series.” In addition to VGC, industry insiders like NateTheHate and Jeff Grubb have chimed in with their intel from their respective sources. The common thread between what all three are saying is that the remake is that of 2001’s Silent Hill 2 with Bloober Team at the helm. In a separate interview with IGN, Bloober Team CEO, Piotr Babieno, deflected the question about the studio’s upcoming projects, saying that, “We can’t comment on anything we are doing because we appreciate our partners, of course.” This is neither a confirmation nor a denial, but if you ask some people, it’s an answer that leans more towards the former.
— Jeff Grubb (@JeffGrubb) May 16, 2022 Over the past two years, multiple sites and individuals have linked The Medium studio to the Silent Hill franchise. Even after Bloober Team outright denied the earlier leaks, many still do not think that the talks are baseless. Konami’s “strategic co-operation agreement” with Bloober Team doesn’t help its case either. Not to mention, Bloober Team and Silent Hill are linked together. The original Silent Hill composer, Akira Yamaoka, lent his talents to The Medium. If it’s any consolation, the past few years have been good for horror game fans. After going through a relative lull period where indie horror projects gained prominence in the early 2010s, iconic franchises like Resident Evil rebounded big. With Capcom releasing Resident Evil Village last year and Supermassive Games’ The Quarry coming in June, there’s no shortage of nightmare-inducing titles these days. Of course, if a new Silent Hill is coming, who are we to say no?
